A splash page is an opening page to a web site, containing stimulating graphics or animation. Typically, after a set period of time - usually about 15 seconds or so - the Splash Page automatically bounces the user into the main body of the web site.
Splash pages are used to create a strong first impression, and set a stylistic tone for a web site. They can also annoy the viewer, in a hurry to get to the content within the site. Splash pages are fun to make, and we love to have fun, but there may be a better idea for your web site.
We like to create what we call an Entry Page. Like a Splash Page, this is a page with compelling graphical content that makes a strong first impression, and it sets a stylistic tone for the web site. But it does not automatically bounce into the main part of the site. Instead, it includes navigation options leading to other destinations within the site. This gives the page a purpose the user can relate to and interact with. Much better, in our opinion.
You may need a Splash Page, or an Entry Page. Or, you may want your site to open with a "Core Page". The core page introduces your site, and tells a bit about who you are and what you do. It includes navigation and access to the rest of the site, and may have special features or news that you change periodically.
